GM Canola: An Unexpected Stance 12 Mar 10, 01:03:00

I was pretty harsh on the Honorable Peter Abetz late last year when he made those nazi comments in support of the stop and search laws--so harsh I still have the legal bill to contend with!. But he managed to earn my kudos earlier this week when he threatened to cross the floor, and make a conscious vote on a dis-allowance motion aimed at stopping GM canola being grown in Western Australia. The Liberal government needs to get its head straight--when one of their own, and an agricultural scientist no less, questions the safety of GM crops then should not his party take heed? One wonders what back-door deals are going on outside of parliament when this states government is willing to risk not only our proud pasturalist traditions on the whim of genetically modified crops, but also risk the health and safety of its own citizens by allowing GM food crops be grown in this state. Wake up Colin!

That facist little arsewipe has done it again--Colin Barnett has once again ingmred the views of the people of WA and decided to allow GM canola to be grown in Western Australia. In a sneaky move the state government annonced this on Jan 25th--the Monday before the Australia Day public holiday, a day when most people are spending time with there familys and friends, not paying attention to political media releases. I don't need to go on about the evils and ills of Genetically Modified foodstuffs, we are all in agreement on how bad they are for the growers, consumers and the environment. It just shows again that the arseholes in power do not care about PEOPLE, they only care about the corporate interests that pay for there luxury yachts and golf courses. WA has never been a large producer of canola, and this decision will impact one of our biggest export industrys--WHEAT!. Not to mention the impact it will have on the livestock that graze in our pastoral lands. Will lamb products that come from GM farms be labeled as such?. I verymuch doubt it. I had to stop watching broadcast news on the commercial networks due to the underlying right-wing agenda those broadcasts carried. Its hard to avoid the news, and when visiting others that dont hold my cynical point of view, I often have to bite my tounge when the nightly news broadcast appears. Now there is a new "kid" on the prime-time news block, Channel 10's 7PM Project. For those unfamiliar with the show: Its a "news-lite" or "infotainment" show aimed at young adults (Read: gen-y) and the content is painful to watch from a "I have a media degree lefty" point of view. The show tries to pass itself off as a legitimate current affairs program, but in reality its a right-wing editorial. The giveaway to viewers should be that the host's are not journalists, but comedians, and yet they try to present themselves as journo's. I wouldnt have found it nessisary to write about this show if it were not for there portrayal of a local Perth man, dubbed by the media as "Tree-man", Richard Pennicuik. Mr Pennicuik has been protesting his local councils plans to remove a large native tree from his front verge, and resorted to climbing the massive eucalypt and has stayed there for over a week--in Perth's summer heat. Please view the following videos to see how the 7PM project tryed to make Richard Pennicuik a national laughing stock: I think the presenters need to look carefully at how they portray members of the public or they risk alienating themselves. In Australia, we support the little guy, not turn him into a luaghing stock. ofcorse, its not just the infotainment programs that are taking a dig at "Tree-man". The regular news broadcasts on the networks are also attacking him. Why? is it more important to make one man look stupid that to report on some REAL news? This tree story has been given more airtime than Abetz and his Nazi remarks, a man who should be ridiculed by the media--and a lawmaker to boot. It is clear that the news media here has an agenda, and that agenda is not to inform--That agenda is to distract us from whats realy going on.

This weekend the federal government started its "alcohol fulled violence" crackdown--the So called Operation Unite, and it may seem like a holiday safety initiative but the true agenda may be much darker. Crime, in most peoples definition of the word, is a state government issue. The State Legislature is responsible for each states Crimes Act, The State police enforce that act, and the state attorney general is responsible for the bureaucracy with the administering of said crimes. Seldom does the federal government impose its will on the states sovereignty to create and enforce laws. The federal "alcohol" crackdown is one of these rare times that truly test what type of democracy we in Australia claim to hold. However Im not here on my soap box to discuss the Federation/Succession argument, what im here to do is point out, what I belive is why the federal government is sticking its nose into state business. During the Howard years and subsequent war on terror(Freedom), the federal government bolstered the ranks of the Australian Federal Police, and other federally run security services(I wont name names) to combat "terrorism" that was running rife during this time--Once John Howard was overthrown in the battle of Bennalong, the government had a surplus of staff with high security clearance and quickly needed to put them to work. One way to give "highly-trained" ASIO agents (opps) job security--excuse the pun, is to have them "liaize" with the state police forces on projects that the public wont think are a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. So Rudkips sends them to bust boozers. But what are the real aims of Operation Unite?. well the police agency's themselves have to keep operational information from the public, so were left to interpret the situation from the data we have available. And living in western Australia, what i interprate is that these days ahead are gonna get darker, with Stop and Search Laws, Increased police arsenal, and a Corruption and Crime Commission that is more intent on playing party politics that solving this states corruption problems. Really, the best thing to do this holiday season is to stay at home.

I decided to "follow my heart" and go back to uni to finish my degree, unfortunatly--or fortunatly depending on how I look at it, the Degree I was doing, a Bachelor of Multimedia, has been discontinued. I know i cant go back and erase my mistakes but i can still learn from them and not repeat them. I could have done this as a list... i digress again.
